Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This is my Asian-inspired answer to a classic burrito bowl. We’re taking juicy, savoury beef mince and giving it an Asian-style taco seasoning twist with garlic, ginger, soy, hoisin and a little five spice. Then we layer it up with creamy avocado, black beans, sweet corn and crispy iceberg lettuce. Add a dollop of sour cream, crunchy tortilla chips and plenty of fresh lime and you’ve got a bowl that’s fresh, filling and big on flavour. Easy to prep, fun to build, and guaranteed to be a weeknight favourite.

What is an Asian-Style Burrito Bowl?

It’s the best bits of a burrito

bowl

, reimagined with Asian flavours. Instead of Tex-Mex spices, we’re using garlic, ginger, smoked paprika, soy and hoisin for a savoury-sweet beef topping. Black beans and corn bring the hearty burrito vibe, while crisp iceberg lettuce keeps things fresh and crunchy. It’s everything you love about build-your-own bowls, but with an Asian twist that makes it feel new.

Special Ingredient Notes

The star of this dish is the Asian-style taco seasoning I mix straight into the beef. Hoisin adds a sweet-savory depth, while soy and five spice give it that unmistakable Asian flavour. Using tinned black beans keeps things easy. Just rinse and drain before warming through. And don’t skimp on the iceberg lettuce here. It brings that crisp, refreshing crunch that balances out the rich beef and creamy toppings.

Marion’s Kitchen Tip

This bowl loves extras. Crushed peanuts, crispy shallots or even a sprinkle of fried garlic will add extra crunch. You can swap the beef for chicken mince or even tofu. And if you’re dairy-free, replace the sour cream with a dollop of coconut yoghurt for a creamy finish.
